SANTA FE INDIAN MARKET | AUGUST 21 – 22, 2021
One of Santa Fe’s most iconic and popular events is one that pays tribute to the Indigenous people of the United States and Canada. The Santa Fe Indian Market provides a spectacular opportunity for Native American artists to exhibit and sell their art over the two days of the market on and around the Santa Fe Plaza. Organized by SWAIA, Southwestern Association for Indian Arts, this event draws thousands of collectors to Santa Fe to stroll the booths, speak with the artists, and perhaps take home something special.
In the almost 100 years since the first Indian Fair, Indian Market has become more than a two-day market. Now you can enjoy events throughout market week, including fashion shows, gallery openings, performances, and so much more. With the market having gone virtual in 2020 due to COVID-19, there is excitement in the air as plans are laid to return the market to the plaza. Hundreds of artists plan to attend, with additional artists again participating in a virtual market. In 2020, 450 artists participated in the virtual market, providing income from art sales during a time when it was needed most.
At last count, almost 600 artists were juried into the 2021 market in categories such as jewelry, pottery, basketry, pueblo wooden carvings, paintings, textiles, beadwork, quillwork, and sculpture.
