As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s time to think about what to do with your Christmas tree. If you live in Bernalillo County, there’s an easy and eco-friendly solution! From January 2 through January 15, you can recycle your Christmas tree at designated drop-off locations, helping to keep it out of landfills and giving it a new purpose.
Why Recycle Your Christmas Tree?
Recycling your Christmas tree not only reduces waste but also benefits the environment. Recycled trees are often chipped into mulch, which can be used to enrich soil and support landscaping projects around the community.

Guidelines for Recycling
To ensure a smooth recycling process:
- Remove All Decorations: Make sure your tree is free of ornaments, lights, tinsel, and stands. Only natural trees can be accepted.
- No Artificial Trees: Artificial trees are not eligible for recycling and should be disposed of differently.
- Limit on Tree Size: Extremely large trees may need to be cut down to a manageable size for drop-off.
