I love checklists, don’t you? I can download them, print them, carry them around with me using my smart phone, or just write things down in a plain old notebook.
One of the best and most useful checklists I have found is a checklist for what to do when you have found your perfect home and are getting ready for the big move. This list will grow over time, so here’s a good start!
8 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING
- Create a “move file” to keep track of estimates, receipts, and other important information.
- Check with the IRS to see what expenses can be deducted on your next tax return
- Start putting together medical and dental records and ask your healthcare providers for referrals in your new city
- Start researching your new community. The Internet is a great resource for finding community guides and community information.
- Get estimates from moving companies and compare them. Don’t pick the lowest price, make sure you compare for guaranteed pricing, experience and the reputation of the company.
- Arrange to have school records transferred to your new school.
